Restore America — Vote!

We have a few yard signs with the slogan “Restore America — Vote!” that were printed up by the Dallas TEA Party. If you know of a very visible, high traffic location where we can place one, let me know. We plan to use re-use them for future elections, also, so we are looking for people who will display them and remove them after the election so they don’t get thrown away. Please contact us at info@rowletttexasteaparty.com.

The Dallas County Sheriff candidate videos have been uploaded at http://northtexascouncil.org (under the “Vetting” tab). Incumbent Lupe Valdez did not respond to the invitation to be vetted and candidate Renee Christian dropped out too late to keep her name off the ballot, but you can see Democrat Charlie Thomas and Republican Kirk Launius answer questions.

Also at the same website are State Board of Education District 12 candidates and a few Railroad Commission candidates of interest to our area. If you know someone in Collin County, let them know about the other candidates vetted by the North Texas Council.

Early voting starts today at the Rowlett City Annex, 4004 Main and goes through Friday, May 25:

Monday through Friday, May 14-18 - 8 am to 5 pm
Saturday, May 19 – 7 am to 7 pm
Sunday, May 20 – 1 pm – 6 pm
Monday through Friday, May 21-25 – 7 am to 7 pm

Voter Information

Voter registration cards are supposed to go out soon and you should receive yours by April 25. According to the Dallas County Elections Department’s recent media release, even if your voter registration card is expired you are still registered to vote, and even if you don’t receive a card by the election, you should go to the polls with any approved form of identification (see the dalcoelections site below).

Your voting privileges do not expire as long as you remain a resident of Dallas County. If you need to update your voter information, go to http://dalcoelections.org.

The Dallas Morning News has a voter guide at: http://c3.thevoterguide.org/v/dallas12/index.do, where you can compare answers that candidates in contested races have given to questionnaires from the editorial board. Just put in your address and it will prepare a handy ballot for you.

For some good candidate vetting, go to the North Texas Council website: http://northtexascouncil.org and click on “Vetting.” Of interest to Rowlett residents are the candidates for State Board of Education District 12. Other races will be added soon, one of which will be candidates for the Texas Railroad Commission.

Don’t forget, the RTP has flyers encouraging voters to turn out — if you want to distribute some to your friends and neighbors, let us know.

New Dallas County Precinct Maps

The new precinct maps are out. I have taken the Rowlett portion of the map and put in readable precinct numbers.

Rowlett.Precincts.2012

The link to all the maps is here:

http://dalcoelections.org/2011_Redistricting_Info/index.asp

Click on “Precinct Conversion Chart” to see what changes have been made to your particular precinct. For example, Precinct 2507 is now Precinct 2927 (no change in precinct boundary), and it was in the 3rd US Congressional District but is now in the 32nd; was in 112th State House District, now in 113th; was in the 2nd State Senate Distrct, now in the 16th. Comissioners Court, Justice of the Peace and State Board of Education Districts remain the same.
